Who We Are

As United Methodists, our purpose is to love God and love our neighbors. We believe that the Bible guides us in our understanding of God and God’s desire for our lives, and we seek to apply it to how we treat our neighbors. We also value the intellect and modern science – we believe that the God of the universe who endowed us with brains also expects us to use them.  Methodists have a passion for social justice, and we believe that faith is best when applied and lived – and that we are called to spread God’s light and hope to all people.

We are a people of passionate faith with strong convictions – but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We believe that it is crucial that we continue to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion. For more on our doctrines, check out the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. Methodists have been known for our emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed and passionate preaching, worship that was lively, and small groups where people could grow in faith.

At Tonganoxie United Methodist Church, we are a community of faith – inviting all to know God’s love, connecting with each other growing in our faith, and serving our community and the world. We hope you will join us as we seek to live changed lives that bless the world!
